Meet & Greet with the California Legislative Lesbian, Gay,
Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Caucus The California Legislative LGBT Caucus was originally formed in
June 2002. The caucus's role is to present a forum for the California
Legislature to discuss issues that affect lesbian, gay, bisexual, and
transgender (LGBT) Californians and to further the goal of equality and justice
for all Californians. Formation of the LGBT Caucus made California the first
state in the country to recognize an official caucus of openly-LGBT state
legislators. This year, the California Legislature has the largest number of
openly-LGBT lawmakers in its history, with five Assemblymembers (Speaker John
A. Pérez, Assemblymembers Tom Ammiano, Toni Atkins, Richard Gordon, and Ricardo
Lara) and 2 Senators (Christine Kehoe and Mark Leno). The Legislative LGBT Caucus is currently chaired by Senator
Kehoe. Four of the Caucus’s members have confirmed that they will be
in attendance: Senator Christine Kehoe, Assemblymember Toni Atkins,
Assemblymember Richard Gordon and Assemblymember Ricardo Lara. The Caucus has been named Honorary Grand Marshals for the
Fresno Rainbow Pride 2011 Parade and Festival. They will be marching in the
Parade and will address the Festival on stage at 12pm on Saturday, June 4th. Free and open to public!

Dedication of the GLBT Tribute TreeSaturday, May 28, 2011, 10am - Dedication &
Ribbon Cutting at Fulton Street & Alhambra Ave.
No one in the
GLBTQ community can say that they have not been bullied or have endured
derogatory slurs whether directly aimed at them or to others around them.
Last month
Community Link planted a 15 gallon Chinese Pistacchio Tree with the assistance
of Tree Fresno in a program of theirs called Tribute Trees. The tree, while
small, will have a small metal plaque attached to it stating that this tree is
dedicated to the GLBT community and will become the anchor to Community Link’s
beautification projects in the Pride Festival area.
The community is
invited to attend the dedication and rainbow ribbon cutting ceremony as we
remember those who have suffered greatly at the bullies’ hands and their words
and look towards the days when everyone is accepted for who they are.
This ceremony is
open to the public at no charge. Donations, checks will be accepted, will
however be greatly appreciated and be directed towards the maintenance of and
improvements to the Pride Parkette/Pride Plaza.
