 RAINBOW BOWLING LEAGUE

A program of Community Link, Inc. - a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization

Rainbow Bowling League is Community Link's newest project. It started in October 2007 as a way of keeping recreational activities going in the fall and winter, when it's too cold for our Queer Volleyball games outside.

In 2010, we decided to hold RBL's Summer Edition as an alternative to volleyball. If you hate having to choose, know that we WILL be back in October 2010 for our regular season.

The league is always looking for players! We play weekly on Thursdays (practice 7:15pm, games 7:30pm) at Cedar Lanes, 3131 N. Cedar Ave in Fresno. The sign-up and organizational meeting for Summer Edition will be Thursday April 29th at 7:30pm at the meeting room by the entrance. You must bring $26 deposit with you. Games cost $13 a week, the season will be May 6th - August 26th (17 weeks).  We need players who can commit to being there every week as well as substitute players for teams. Please call Rich at the number above if you're interested.

 BOWL-A-THON

A program of Community Link, Inc. - a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization
Contact person: Jeffery Robinson - (559) 486-3464

Bowl-A-Thon is an annual fundraiser, which started in 2000. We reserve several lanes on third Sunday in August just for teams from our LGBT community and have a big party with themes such as "Beach Party", "Wig Out!" and "Halloween". There's a big raffle, costumes, trophies and surprises! Since it's a fundraiser for Community Link, teams are asked to donate a minimum amount of money to participate.

While teams are almost always local to Fresno, we were thrilled to have Visalia Rainbowlers send a large team in 2008!

Beach Blanket Bingo goes to the Alley, Bowling Alley that is!

Community Link is getting their Summer FUN Event/Fund Raiser set for their bonfire, sand, surf, sun-lotion and bikinis, beach blowout Fresno Style.

Remember those old Beach Party Movies starring Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon plus a slew of other characters including the spoof of Marlon Brando in the fictional motorcycle gang, The Rat Pack. Think of hanging ten, Surfboards, Hawaiian shirts coconut bras, grass skirts, Tiki Lounges, beach blankets, sunglasses, and sand. Let's relive those teenaged crazed days of old and get decked out in your best or worst beach wear.

Sunday, August 22 at 2:30pm at Cedar Lanes, 3131 N. Cedar Ave. in Fresno.

While the Bowl-A-Thon is butt-loads of fun, it is also a major fundraiser for Community Link and all of our programs, such as the GLBT Youth group, Gray Alliance, Fresno Rainbow Pride, Kids Like Us, Speaking Out Speaker's Bureau, News Link, Pink Pages, The Radio Show -“It's a Queer Thang”, Queer Volley Ball and the Rainbow Bowling League.

The fundraising part comes into play by each team contributing a MINIMUM of $25 per team of three to four bowlers.

The challenge and competition is in seeing which team's contribution is the biggest, who will donate the most money.

Now, remember this is a fundraiser and while your team is making a contribution, they are still required to pay for their individual games and shoe rental. It would defeat the course if we had to pay for your games and wouldn't be much of a fundraiser.

The Bowl-A-Thon is Community Link's major summer fund raiser, a summer afternoon event held in an airconditioned bowling alley, out of the August heat where everyone bowler and supporters get to have a good, fun time while doing a good deed. Everyone, not only the bowlers, but also anyone who comes out to watch, will be measured by their height, plus some, in raffle tickets for wonderful door prizes. These prizes are raffled off throughout the bowl-a-thon. AND guess what! There's no purchase required.

In addition to the prizes there is a double King & Queen Pin Contest conducted in the highly unscientific kinda way, by the old applause meter. Anyone can nominate anyone who shows up for the Female Queen Pin and King Pin, and Male Queen Pin and King Pin campy contest.

Plus everyone is encouraged to come in the beach wear theme. There will be a prize for the UGLIEST beach outfit!

And as always, there will be trophies for the Best Bowling Team uniforms, Most Original Team Name, Best Game (Individual's highest one game score), Most Genetically Challenged (Worst Game-Individual's lowest one game score), and the Top Strikers - a special award to the team that brings in the most money. In The Cocktails' Pins & Balls the bars will compete against each other. Who will take the trophy this year - Red Lantern, the Den, the Express or maybe the North Tower Circle?

Here is what you need to do:

1. Get your team together.

2. Contact us at 559-486-3464, we are reserving the lanes as teams sign up. Or sign up below:

My name (first and last please)

Team name

How many people on the team

My phone number (REQUIRED! We will need to call you back to verify!)

3. We are asking that each team contribute a minimum of $25 per team. (BUT, remember that the team that raises the most gets the special trophy for TOP STRIKERS.)

4. Get to Cedar Lanes on Sunday, August 22nd before 2:30 pm.

5. Your game and shoes per person are a flat $8 this year. Pay Community Link and then we will take care of Cedar Lanes, this will make it easier.

* Practice games will be charged to the teams using them.

7. NOW bowl and have some Beach Fun!
