Bowlathon 2008

Halloween’s coming early - why don’t YOU?

It's Bowlathon time! Sunday, August 17, 2008, 2:30 pm, at Cedar Lanes at 3131 N. Cedar Avenue (on the corner of Cedar & Shields). This year the theme is COSTUME PARTY!

Community Link's major summer fund raiser, Bowlathon, is a funtastic and air-conditioned summer afternoon event of fundraising and fun - with the focus on the fun.

Everyone, not only the bowlers, but also everyone who comes out to watch, will be measured in their height, plus some, in raffle tickets for wonderful door prizes. These prizes are raffled off throughout the bowlathon. AND guess what! There's no purchase required. Just show up to have some cool summer fun!

In addition to the prizes there is a double King & Queen Pin Contest conducted in the highly unscientific applause meter kinda way.. Anyone can nominate anyone who shows up for their favorite Female Queen Pin and King Pin, and Male Queen Pin and King Pin personalities. There are no obligations or requirements, just a fun and campy contest.

Plus everyone is encouraged to put on a COSTUME and get all dolled up. There will be a prize for the Most Outrageous Costume! And as always, there will be trophies for the Best Bowling Outfit, Most Original Team Name, Best Game (Individual's highest one game points), Most Genetically Challenged (Worst Game-Individual's lowest one game points), and the Strikers - a special award to the team that brings in the most money. There is also a special prize for our Bars to compete over - Cocktails' Pins & Balls. The Bar Teams compete for best team score. Who will take the trophy this year - Red Lantern, the Den, the DejaVu or maybe the Circle?

Here is what you need to do:

1. Get your team together.

2. Contact us at 559-486-3464, we are reserving the lanes as teams sign up.

3. We are asking that each team try donate at least $25 per team. (BUT, remember that the team that raises most gets the special trophy for TOP STRIKERS)

4. Get to Cedar Lanes on Sunday, August 17th before 2:30 pm.

5. Your game and shoes per person are a flat $5 this year. Pay Community Link and then we will take care of Cedar Lanes, this will make it easier.

6. NOW bowl and have Fun!

Bowl-a-Thon 2007 Recap

Community Link’s “Wig Out” Bowl-a-thon was a fun filled afternoon of laughter and fundraising. The event was attended by a large and gayly clad crowd.

Jeff Robinson, the CEO of Community Link said, “This was the second most financially successful bowl-a-thon we have held, but the most attendance we have ever seen.”

Mr. Robinson reported that the very first Bowl-a-thon actually raised several hundred dollars more than the $850 that was raised this year.

This year the attendees came decked out with a variety of outrageous wigs and costumes. Juan Bustamante exclaimed: “It was great seeing everyone having such a good time with the theme this year. It was very wild and festive.”

The Red Lantern team took the Bar Trophy, Pins & Cocktails over the Deja Vu. This was the first time the Red Lantern had a team. The IDC took the Top Striker Trophy for raising the most money for Community Link. The Best Game went to Danny, who is one of the folks spearheading Community Link’s new gay bowling league, The Rainbow Bowling League.

As usual, many other awards were given out, such as Most Outrageous Costume (Donnie), Most Outrageous Wig (Brandon), The Worst Game which went to a member of the Fresno Youth Alliance. Best Team Outfit went to Kampout. Tons of door prizes were raffled off requiring a large crew of volunteers to help give out all those wonderful prizes. A great time was had by all.
